Zuraida Ariffin
I am the principal of a business called ‘Zuraida Ariffin Wealth Creation’ and we provide quality, tailored advice to help our clients achieve their financial goals. We focus on strategic advice, providing value by designing strategies for clients that will make an enormous difference to their financial position in the long term. We provide strategic advice to clients in different stages of life and situations, for example:
- A young single starting to budget, save and invest to put together a deposit on a home.
- A family with a mortgage, wanting to invest for the children’s education and create wealth.
- Couples focussing on plans for retirement and lifestyle goals.
- Retirees who are managing their cash flows derived from a superannuation account or Self Managed Super Fund.
We also utilise a unique budgeting tool called Prospera Financial Freedom System. It uses many well tested methods of money management to assist people with an average income, with an average house, with an average mortgage.
I wanted to work with people and make a difference to their lives. From my own experience, my parents simply spent money day by day and repeatedly had ‘too much month at the end of the money’. As a result I grew up with the view that if you have money, then you would use it for ‘stuff’ like clothes and shoes. Managing cash flow was not a part of my vocabulary.
I was totally amazed when I learnt that there was an area of knowledge called financial planning, which included protecting and building wealth for families and I chose to pursue a career in this area. I’m glad I made that choice!
Having been in this profession for many years, I can now look back and see the fantastic outcomes for clients that I have worked with for up to 20 years and that makes me feel wonderful.
As evidence of the strength of the on-going work I do with clients, I won a Value of Advice Award (2007) for the work I did to help a young couple increase their net worth from $25,000 to $600,000 over a ten year period. This kind of service continues to be provided to clients with lots of improvement in monitoring systems and the strategies we use today.
Being in business you come across challenges on a regular basis therefore it is important to be realistic, resilient and optimistic. Financial Planning is a highly regulated area and changes in the legislation may affect us and our clients when we least expect them. I love what I do and I thrive on challenges.
However, it can be a stressful job so I’ve trained myself to control my stress levels by being active and doing the things I enjoy like yoga, walking, visiting art galleries, going to the movies, learning salsa and reggaeton and spending time with friends. This benefits my clients as I can provide undivided attention when talking to them for the very first time or when they come in for their regular reviews, which is important for building long-term relationships.
Naturally, I do not attempt to deal with challenges on my own. I make sure that I have a fantastic team of people to work with, whether they are my staff, or the other organisations that provide us with support at different levels. I really appreciate the people around me who offer their expertise and together we ensure that our clients have a good experience and achieve their financial and lifestyle goals. This is important as Zuraida Ariffin Wealth Creation is built on word-of- mouth referrals from our clients.
